South Yorkshire Scouts Ukrainian Adventure Club
Ukrainian Adventure Club was created by South Yorkshire Scouts following a request from Sheffield’s Ukrainian community for a children’s summer holiday event at the end of August.
The refugee hosting model can mean families are widely distributed and risks isolation. In response, Adventure Club brought together forty such children, aged 8 to 14, to play, to speak their shared language and well, to be children.
Run by volunteers from the local Scouting community and based at the Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre in North Sheffield, the ‘Club’ consisted of three days of activities with the children travelling by coach from the centre of Sheffield each day. They also enjoyed being fed and watered with lunch, drinks and snacks provided during the day. The event was kindly funded by Adventure Funding Sheffield and Vulcan Rotary Club - Sheffield.
During the event, the children took part in twelve exciting adventures, resulting in personal growth, friendship, and a lot of fun.
As the sun shone, children and adults, Ukrainian and British, worked and played alongside each other, creating something unique and amazing!
